alternative thinkings on soy

hello everyone! i have read in a book or two, been informed on various occasions from different sources, that soy products are bad for you. some sources say not all soy products are bad, just ones that are not fermented. many sources have said things that i have already read about in other sources in previous research. anyways, i've always avoided ( Read more... )

I'm coming in to the debate late, but I thought I'd throw in my two cents.

One can't be too careful about sources of information. Soy is almost certainly one of the most difficult things to research, simply because there is so much staked on it. Yes, there are huge multi-national corporations producing soy who have a definite interest in telling us it's all good. But there is an even larger group of companies and consumers who have a great deal of money and pride wrapped up in anti-soy sentiments. If soy turns out to be as amazing a product as some believe, it will be very difficult for many people to continue justifying their consumption of animal products. Soy is a threatening product to non-veg*ns. It has been studied extensively, but there have always been a lot of politics involved in the research ( ... )

i think many vegans are obsessed with replacing animal products with vegetable-sourced equivalents. i don't think that the way of thinking should be "ok so if i can't have meat i'll have tofu but since tofu is dangeorus i'll just eat meat"... no, how about eating other things that aren't soy or meat? removing animal products and soy from your diet is very easy.
