My apologies to those who don't like seeing politics on livejournal. I find these arguments interesting and important.  The extension of the tax cut was a blow to reducing the huge budget deficit; something I thought all parties in this country wanted to achieve.  I am putting all but the opening paragraphs behind a lj-cut.

How can they deny the little old guy in Everytown USA a couple percent cost of living increase in his pittance of Social Security income (what sort of quality of life could YOU manage on $700 bucks per month?), while our Country will have to borrow so that some arrogant nimrods who blow more than that on a single bottle of wine, keep what was a-bad-idea-to-start-with tax cut?

The amount of money that would come to the Treasury from that tax pause coming back online would cover just about every cost the Greedy Obstructionists Party are screeching about. We NEED that income!

Not allowing that $%^& tax break to expire, as it was intended to do in its original form, is the most stupid thing that's been done in the past couple years.

Every Senator who voted for this mess should be tried for malfeasance in office.
These greedy jerks have destroyed the United States.

Did you read the Biden explanation? Its the post just before this one. I think its interesting to see what the admin says. The most compelling point is that its a stealth stimulus package. The points about the Republican side of the deal are interesting. As Sanders says the extension of unemployment benefits have been for the last 50 years a bi-partisan measure when the unemployment rate is above 7.5.
