Fear breeds hate. Not just fear of another group, but fear of speaking up. They may not be racist, but instead of saying "this was horrible", they're hiding behind a "well, yeah, but that's just some of them" curtain. Or they're really racist but pretend not to be.

And actually, there were black cowboys.

It's sick, and I hate that instead of standing up to the bigots, the principal lightened the skin on the mural. That's sending a terrible message. I wonder if sending an email out of protest would do any good? Or is that pointless?

ONe of the comments on the article claimed the artist went back on the agreement to lighten the picture and so the lightening wasn't finished. I don't know if that was true since there wasn't a link. I should look that up. I'll report if the situation changes. The whole thing is horrifying and shameful.
