A while ago, I got the idea to get business cards printed up with my name, my e-mail address, and the title "Gentleman Adventurer." I haven't actually printed said cards yet, but it did give me the idea of making a gentleman adventurer costume for Halloween ( Read more... )

Shoot, man. You can do this kind of stuff. I already had most of the costume pieces anyway.

The Gentleman Adventurer is also apparently quite adept at quirky captions! weezel365 November 1 2008, 12:36:42 UTC
A few more Victorian / Steam Punk additions and you'll have FULL Superhero Gear, mein freund. Hell, I could make you a gentlemanly cohort to Victorianne and Punk Rock Girl.

Why, thank you, sir.
And those captions are me trying to explain away why I look so morbidly hilarious obese in that one picture, and then deciding that all the pictures needed some sort of period-sounding caption.

My next step is going to be further small improvements in the goggles and either making or buying a better holster, one with a strap around the bottom to keep it on the leg. Maybe painting the canteen so it looks like it's made of aluminum instead of plastic.

And the best part is, I already had most of that stuff. Or my dad did and I borrowed it from him.

I knew buying that hat in Australia would come in handy.

Thanks! It's a first step that I'm hoping to expand on, maybe add some other bits and pieces to take it more Victorian or more pre-WW2.

The goggles are the only part of the actual costume I made. We also made the holster and I disassembled & painted a Nerf gun for the pistol. I got the hat in Australia and the boots are L.L. Bean waterproof leather & rubber boots that are extremely toasty-warm. Best snow boots I've ever seen.
