Not many of you know this, but my grandparents left a life insurance policy that paid a sum to each of their grandchildren, in addition to their children. With this money, I purchased a new laptop ( Read more... )

Is that one of those ones like we looked at at the mall that had the stupid lighted air vents for no discernible reason?

Smaller, newer, and without the stupidly lighted vents. If you remember the small one we looked at, it's that thing with a 15" screen instead of a 13". It's just about ideal, really. The only complaint I have is that the only built-in mousing device is a track-pad and I hate finger-painting my way through menus. And, apparently, it only has an ExpressCard slot and no PCMCIAs. Not a big deal, but I had thought it would come with at least one type-2 PCMCIA.

Meh. How often do you use PC cards anyway? And also, you can plug in a mouse.

Yeah, I have a wireless Logitech mouse, but there appears to be a hardware problem. It doesn't click right, so I'm going to send it back and get another one. It's small, but still fits my hand well, and the transmitter is just a little USB dongle that plugs into the mouse itself. Very handy.

And the PCMCIA thing is almost a non-issue, especially since this actually has a FireWire port on it.

Correction: best part is that Steve Jobs doesn't have my financial walnuts in a jar on his desk.
I like Macs, for the most part, but his biggest-little-monopoly thinking really turns me off.

i hear finger print scanners can cause you to have really bad headaches.. want to be a test case?

I might not be your ideal test case. I mean, I've already got the bad headaches and had them well before I ever got my fingerprint scanner.

But if there's money involved, I'll do it.

i hear that they scanners actually bend space time and cause the headaches a year and a half or so before you first com in contact with them.

the cure is in the pudding.

I love pudding.
But, back to these scanners. How do they see? Do they see clearly, or darkly?
