And yeah, I think it's at least highly likely. But then GRRM goes through these "oh, no, the fans have guessed my plans!" things, so who knows?

Yeah, which is probably one of the reasons for the Jon twist in the latest book. :) But, I also read an interview with the producers of the show (Benioff et al) who basically said that they went to him and said, "Well, here are our theories" and he confirmed it. So, who knows. I will be so surprised if he lives to finish out the series.

I know he's said that he doesn't have notes locked away somewhere to allow someone else to finish it in that scenario, but I wonder whether HBO got anything from him as part of the rights sale? Presumably he didn't give them carte blanche to do whatever they want in case of his death.

You mean the final fake-out? ::yawn::
