OK, this is totally awesome. Poor Sark, finally outclassed and undone. And Winchester here is just creepy as hell, like a demon himself. A bird calls, and despite the perfect darkness Sark can see fire reflected in the dead man's eyes.

Ay, what cold-bloodedness: he wasn't sure it could be done until he needed to do it. But I suppose he always does what's needful.

Thank you! And thank you for the recommendation, as well!

Poor Sark. I feel a little bad about what I do to him here. But John Winchester actually is a creepy bastard, when you get down to it, and ruthless too. And death would only make that worse, I think.

I actually had to wait overnight before responding, both to the story and to this comment ( ... )

Well, I'd say this: that it's difficult for John to be in hell and condemn a living man to it (though perhaps he's convinced himself that Sark will not die or might go to heaven :D). But being dead might make you a mite more desperate and resourceful than you were when you were alive. By which I mean, when John died and went to hell, he lost much of his finer feeling and was left only with the desire to return to his boys at whatever cost. Which is why regular folks shouldn't go wanderin' around down there with potions of immortality.

Also, you kind of have to know Sark. Although your comment actually is more interesting because you don't know Sark, and neither does John ... but the irony of Sark dying in hell ought not to be lost on the reader.

I'm not going to read the fic, because, well, Alias and Supernatural? neither so much my cup of tea - but the author's note is priceless. :)

You have no idea. Although I much prefer the A-series, I don't think they work for men.

While I don't have any real background in either show (aside from passing comments I've seen in your Lj), and I tend not to be the crossover type, still, this is a fascinating piece of writing.

Thank you. Describing the underworld is something of a tall order, and things wouldn't be quite... well, not quite right there, I guess. I'm glad you found it striking.

Oh my god. *sobs*

His smile fades. "Not in any way that matters."

It's incredible. You've made me resent John. I didn't think that was possible. Oh Sark.

I'm sorry. I'm really, really sorry. John is sorry too. (Not really. John's a cruel son of a bitch.)

It's just... you know, I'd give Jack good odds in dealing with John, or Irina, or Sloane, but Sark has too many vulnerabilities. He never had a chance.

No, I love it!

He never had a chance.

Of course, it's perfectly in character for both, which is why it's so powerful. And that's what always makes me empathise with Sark, because in the end, he never ever wins but he's so desperate to succeed, to please, and because he has no one.

John and Jack? They're quite alike, when you get down to it. It would be very interesting to see them opposed.

I remember using the whole comparison of John and Jack, and how they're not at all similar except really they are, when I was first burbling about the show to Rez. I would be afraid to see them opposed; I think they'd destroy the universe, between them.

And that's what always makes me empathise with Sark, because in the end, he never ever wins but he's so desperate to succeed, to please, and because he has no one.

I know. It just breaks my heart but it's always, always the truth of him -- all he wants is that security of belonging, and it's the thing he's never had. He never comes first; he's never loved like that.

Thank you. Thank you.

I'd like to see John encounter Irina, as well. Although I don't think I'd give him good odds.
