On my way back home last Sunday, minutes after being fired, I found this old man on the street. He was near my house, on the other side of the street, walking uneasy and falling. I saw his state and was worried, I crossed the street to see what was going on and see if I could be of any help ( Read more... )

That is so sad... any of the scenarios. Sounds like he was really lost and depressed... and alone, that is the saddest part. It was very generous and considerate of you to stop and help him, especially since you were so sad to begin with. I don't think most people would do that. You are an amazing person gemi, your friends are truly blessed to have you in your lives. *hugs*

I hope things get better for him. Just the thought of being alone scares me shitless.

That's exactly what I think: whatever the truth is, no matter if he was lieing or sick, it is very sad.

The first thing he said to me, when I asked if everything was alright, was "I'm lost, completely". That keeps repeating in my head, you know? I felt so bad for him that only yesterday afternoon the reality of failure etc dawned on me.

I don't know, gemi. I don't think I truly helped him. I mean, sure he got safe to the station but I left just after that; who knows what happened with him later on? And the sadness he was feeling, motivated by whatever it was, I'm sure I didn't lessen it. Though, truth is I can't say that I just did what anyone in my place would because there were some people walking past and that did nothing, one even laughed.

I hope that too. And you'll never be alone. :**

You did everything you could... you offered to take him to your house, to wait until he felt better... God, most people would cross the street to avoid him. You helped a lot. Taking him to a place where someone knew him was the best thing to do. The guy probably knew where he lives and what to do next. Whatever it is that is hauting his life... that's something only he can tell and try to get help. You did your best, and it shows how incredibly sweet and loving you are.

That's perfectly understandable that you felt overwhelmed by this experience, Nina. Feeling true sympathy for someone in that deep state of misery must have affected you a lot. *hug* You did the right thing. Trying to help him out, guiding him through the streets. The Geraldo 'mystery' is quite odd, but if you ask around at the bus station, as you're willing to do, I'm sure they'll be able to tell you something more.

I'm so sorry that you got fired! Was it due to your boss? :(

I've put that guy in my prayers - or "hi CS" moments if you must - I really really hope he's well, or better at least.

You've done all you could, Nin, and I'm proud of you for that :***
