It is. :) The world that Pellaz comes from, that agricultural dry and bitter place with the cable crop, has been with me since I first read the books. It's not a large part of his story because obviously he leaves but there are some descriptions of his youth there that are simply striking.

Oho, that first page got me hooked! I love dystopian stories and the way you describe it makes me want to read it very much. Thank you!

The original trilogy is out now as one big book. I am sure you can get it second-hand for cheap. I may re-read the Wraeththu books again - they are really gorgeous.

OMG... Yes! And Storm actually encourages fan fiction, even publishes anthologies containing some. A friend of mine has been at Storm's place several times and she made me discover the world... Fantastic. I did even some fan art back in the early 00's...now, where have I saved that?

Haha! We do share more than we thought! Another Wraeththu fan - welcome again! I met Storm once when she did a reading in Berlin (I brought her flowers, it was SO embarrassing), and she is lovely. Full of energy and totally a fannish person. I don't really like the later Wraeththu books (too esoteric for me) but I love how Storm encourages fanfic.
