PSA: Centering on AO3

Mar 03, 2016 16:47

There is this glitch when posting to the AO3: If you simply use to center section breaks like * * * or o0o or ~, the following paragraph will invariably miss its (automatically inserted) paragraph marks, which results in the lines being squished together. It looks like this then (random example from random fic):

Ah, thank you! Always did it by hand but a code to get it right in advance is much better. :)

Ah, another soul who cares about this. You don't even have to add in all the paragraph marks - only the one for centered text. Simple and easy.

Oh yes, I like to see whatever text as shiny as possible. And it's a nuisance when it's not easy to read because of squashed paragraphs.

Yes! This glitch has always bothered me, and I always go in and fix it by hand for fics that have already been uploaded. Seeing squashed paragraphs always makes my eye twitch :)

Thanks for posting the PSA

I may have had to physically step back from the laptop or else I would have made comments to a fic about the formatting glitch. ;) If I can, I always fix it. That post was a long coming.

I didn't even notice that AO3 did this. Thanks so much for pointing this out and how to fix it. <3

I don't think that's ever happened to me but it is good to know how to fix it.

(I have trouble with LJ coding more than anything. UGH LOL)

It may depend on how you post to AO3 whether it is a problem or not. It's been driving me crazy. (OCD-ness here).

I always noticed this, but just thought it was my eyes playing tricks on me!

Nope, not your eyes. The paragraph marks just fly out if the centering is done with the simple center code. ;)
