REPOST: Sherlock ACD drabbles

Feb 03, 2014 03:19

Since the beginning of the year I've read Sherlock Holmes short stories at sherlock60 and wrote a 60-word-drabble for each one. It's an awesome way to read the stories with a close eye for potential plot bunnies. ;)

If you prefer to listen to a podfic rather than read the stories, all of Arthur Conan Doyle's works are available at LibriVoxI am reposting ( Read more... )

What fun - I am just now reading the Collected Conan Doyles and all the stories were fresh on my mind! I smiled most reading the one about the Musgrave Ritual :-) the child in the man likes to play treasure-hunting with a map everytime ;-)

It is a whole lot of fun. :) What a wonderful coincidence that you are reading the Conan Doyle stories, too. All these - very short (and challengingly so) - drabbles only make sense when one knows the story. The Musgrave Ritual is all about treasure-hunting. :)

What is not very practical is, that I own the Complete Stories in one hardcover-volume - it does not fit into the handbag to take along to work and read on the train ;-); so I can read it just in front of the fireplace at home (one might say that is where it needs to be read) and I am reading another detective story (set in the Bretagne) while commuting. Yesterday evening I started on "The Return of Sherlock Holmes") ;-)... a fainting Watson <3

I love re-reading the ACD stories. I do it at least every couple of years. They fill me with such happiness, and it seems like every time I read, I have a new favorite :D

Can you believe I never read all the short stories but only random stories and the books. :) It's such a treat to get a weekly Holmes story and even have a bit of discussion in the community. Which is your favourite story right now?

I will totally have to check out the comm. It sounds awesome. Right now, I'm having a giant affection for The Speckled Band. Not sure why. Some day I will have to analyze why one story jumps out at me at any given moment.

Have you watched the Granada Sherlock Holmes productions with Jeremy Brett? They are AMAZING.

sherlock60 is a very small comm, with a very clear goal: Read the stories, maybe add a bit of discussion, maybe write a 60 word drabble, or - since last time - a clerihew poem. :) I love it a whole lot.

Ah, the Speckled Band. It's definitely a story that sticks with you. *must re-read*

I have never watched the Granada Holmes. It's on my list. :)
