This is such a perfect incapsulation of the weird, contradictory place blood has in the books. Blood does not matter, and people who think it does are BAD! And the BAD families who do and the GOOD families who don't have been the same forever.

I like the "weird, contradictory place blood has in the books" - it strikes me as very realistic, especially when compared to pre-WWII Germany. And I wonder whether this passage will spark more fanfic dealing with this.
