I like time. I think the history of our understanding and the evolution of our utility of time is fascinating. "Time Discipline" is how this and other aspects are described in sociology and anthropology ( Read more... )

The first Timex makes the most sense for camping. And if you ruin it you're only out $50. Not as classy as a Luminox, but it's got an alarm.

Per your requirements, the Pathfinder makes the most sense for an everyday watch, since the only other one that trumps it on raw functionality is the Calibre 89.

I think I agree with the camping watch.

But the Pathfinder just isn't as aesthetically awesome as the Citizen. Granted, it's by far the best looking Pathfinder they've ever put out, but still. :(

Then you should just save your money on the everyday watch since you've already got two, albeit lame on functionality!

My Problem: vaxocentric September 24 2009, 04:55:07 UTC
My assessment-
Most Practical: Timex Expedition
Most Functional: Casio Pathfinder
Classiest while most useful* in my job: Citizen Skyhawk
My Personal Favorite: Timex E-Tide Expedition

*I operate on multiple timezones regularly, and the easy in which this changes TZs and always displays UTC is awesome

I think the E-Tide, despite the missing alarms and world time, makes a nice camping watch. Looks nice too. Not sure how easily it would dress up though.

The Casio is sort of boring, and heavy, and resin... but it does everything you need and seems to be wearable daily (once you get used to the resin and the weight).

The SkyHawk looks beautiful... but... no compass? WTF! How can you have a FLIGHT COMPUTER and no compass?

INORITE?! It could also benefit from atomic clock sync, but it seriously needs a compass.

If I weren't a consultant I agree with you- I think I'd go with the Pathfinder as an everyday watch. It's unique and crazy enough that I could pull it off when I'm in my 'work' clothes, but I feel I need something a little nicer when I'm meeting with VPs and CXOs, which happens fairly often. (Or I suppose I can just continue to wear my Pulsar when I expect to have meetings and the Pathfinder any other time)

I think viidim7 hit the nail on the head- I just need to wear more than one watch. ;)

The first doesn't have a compass :(
And I definitely want a wristwatch, so the carabiner one is out.
REI has some nice watches, but I have never seen what I'm looking for there.
