oh pretty baby i shouldn't have let you go

So, weird things I do at work #32,453... I'm currently compiling a selection of songs about time. Both the actual word time and also more generic ideas about the way time flows. It's keeping me sane in between trying to understand the argument about time as the fourth or fifth dimension. I want to know why Ten, Rose and Jack can't just turn up and ( Read more... )

pop, dr who

Summertime
Forever Tuesday Morning
God must have spent a little more time on you (heeeeee!)
Ready for the Good Times (Shakira -- I'm going through my iTunes, okay?)
Every Other Time (I have way too much boyband stuff on my iPod)
Time (Hootie and the Blowfish. Um.)
Names and Dates and Times (Ani D)
You Had Time (ditto)
Time and Time Again (Counting Crows)
Rose Colored Times (Lisa Loeb)
Praying for Time (George Michael -- No idea what that's like. Huh.)
The Longest Time (Billy Joel)
What time is is? (Spin Doctors)
What's the time Doctor Wolf? (I don't actually have this one, but the previous one made me think of it.)
Beat the Time (Edie Brickell)
Many's the Time (Tim Finn)
Once in a Lifetime (Talking Heads)
Never as good as the first time (Sade)
Everything in its own time (Indigo Girls)
Time (David Bowie)
The Hurting Time (Annie Lennox)

(That's a selection of the more interesting sounding ones. I have more if you're interested. :-)

I was avoiding God Must Have Spent for a reason *g*

Could you send me Summertime (as long as it's not the Kiri te Kanawa version... because eurgh) and David Bowie's Time? I think I've got the Counting Crows one and Every Other Time at home (I gave it to you didn't I?) and woolly's got Billy Joel.

And there is NO SUCH THING as too much boyband stuff on your iPod. Or mine would explode.

They're only about a third of the way through airing Season 2 (of Dr. Who) in Canada -- most recent ep was "The Girl in the Fireplace". OMG, how I adore this show. Adore it!!! I was so worried that they'd bugger up the whole thing, as so often happens when old shows are resurrected, but it's PERFECT and I FLAIL WITH YOU!!! A LOT!!!

As for Torchwood ... *struggles to look intelligent* ... um, I nothing of this Torchwood whereof you speak. Enlighten me, please?

Weird. I thought you were from the UK. Just the way you write. Huh. *hugs the Canadian*

Isn't it just the stunningest thing? I love it with a non-burning grammar-abandoning passion (possibly because I haven't read enough fic yet ;o). So much clever writing and interesting thinking and snark. Plus the cast are pretty and fun. There is NOTHING not to like!

And Torchwood!!!! Is the spin off. It stars Captain Jack and is about the UK's top secret alien fighting organisation (it's mentioned in The Christmas Invasion as the thing that blows the aliens up on PM Harriet Jones' command). I haven't seen it yet, but OH there is flail. And exclamation-pointage!!!!

Let me know if you want me to burn you copies of the first five eps of Torchwood (or copy you the Who DVDs)... Because I must share the flail (and I'd like to reward you somehow for your lovely fic)...

My first thought was Older, by TMBG - does that count?
Also (several other songs in my iTunes with "time" in the title)
Time - Sarah McLachlan
Do you have a little time - Dido
In Time - Robbie Robb (from Bill & Ted soundtrack)
Time Running - Tegan & Sara
Feel Good Time - Pink
Fear and Time - Melissa Ferrick
Lovers in a dangerous Time - Barenaked ladies
Rose-colored times - Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories

Actually there are 33 songs in my itunes with the word time in the title. Huh. Of course, some are remixes and covers, but still.

Oh... Older! Perfect. I think I may even have that somewhere... Most of the others don't have the immediate 5 second recognition factor that I need - but thanks heaps!

And of course it does have the word tiiiiiime in the lyrics.

If you don't have it, let me know and I'll attempt to upload it. I have the regular verison and a live (i think - it's from the dialasong album) version which is a little different.

I don't seem to have it... could you try? Just the regular version would be great.

*peers at your icon* What's the writing and whose hand is it?

'Windmills of your Mind' (Noel Harrison, I think, sang the original version) is a good song. I don't have a recording of it, only the sheet music (I think)! There's a 'Time after Time', the only version I can think of is by Brent Spiner. 'Time in a Bottle'. Horrifyingly, 'Seasons in the Sun' by Terry Jacks (spelling uncertain). 'Where or When', by Rodgers and Hart, I have a nice recording by Ella Fitzgerald.

Most of the above don't count as pop, if that matters.

Seasons in the Sun. ARRRRRRGHHHHHHHHH! *digs at brain to remove öhrwurm* But. Yes.

Time in a Bottle would be good too. Do you have it at all?

Thank you (even for the earworm).

Yes, quite. I rather regret bringing it up myself! Ohrwurm, indeed.

Sorry, I don't have Time in a Bottle.

Thanks for the suggestion... I continually bless the German language for that phrase - it's just so evocative.

I have no songs or suggestions for you. Just a wish that Jack would show me too. I don't even care what, just show me something.
