And that was when Matthew ran into him.

Sure, the spy was a bit distracted by the marking on his hand, and by the odd glowing, but when he had spied Naoya hurrying along, his curiosity had been piqued. He remembered Naoya clearly, of course, because of all of the people he and Lassiter had met that afternoon, this man had struck him as the most dangerous.

He couldn't pass up the opportunity to find out what was going on, and with Naoya as a fellow test subject, well...

So he accidentally ran into him, stumbling to one side in a perfect display of what would have happened had it really been an accident.

"Oh, I'm sorry!"

To add to the display, Matthew had been about to say 'I didn't mean to run into you', but for some reason, the words wouldn't come. Odd.

... So, he was being followed. THIS was why he couldn't ever risk leaving. Naoya keeps his balance fairly well, one of his geta clacking after the thief bumps into him, his eyes narrowing.

"..." He found himself unable to say what he wanted to, his thoughts a jumble of random cursing. Why did he have to run into THIS one? Usually his sarcasm was easy enough to come by, but why, of all things, couldn't he just say 'of course you are'?

Odd. "So, how long have you been following me?" That was not what he wanted to say, particularly, but he just dismissed it as a bad mood.

'Following you? Why would you think that?'

...That was what Matthew had been planning on saying. What came out of his mouth was something else entirely.

"Oh, not long."

...What was going on? He was able to save it, a little bit, by using a flippant tone and a teasing smirk, but still...Why had he said that? It didn't make any sense.

"You're looking awfully paranoid. I was just wondering why that was." Blunter than the thief was used to being, but he simply smiled innocently as he looked at Naoya.

... Two can play at that game, Matthew. Naoya slips into his mask as quickly as he does his geta, after all. So he simply raises a brow.

"Really." Well, he managed to save it this time by stopping that line of thought. What in the... "By the way, I would like to think I would have reason to be such with someone following me after being abducted, after all."

Well, at least THAT had come out properly.
