Duncan was going to have to make a mental note to avoid the center of town like the plague, nay, Chef's cooking around this time of the month. So many new people in such a short amount of time? It had to be a trend. And Duncan was pretty good at pattern recognition. Heck, if he could learn to memorize the patrol times the cops used, he could figure out arrivals. Same basic principle, except it didn't run the risk of another arrest if he got it wrong.
Of course, this squealing black and pink nightmare definitely felt like punishment enough.
"Yo Pinky, shut it," Duncan groaned, glaring at the new arrival as if hoping that if he tried hard enough, she might die. "Bein stuck in this dump's bad enough, the last thing I need is some gothy cheerleader givin' me a stupid headache."

"We call it fearleading where I'm from, but how did you know I was on the squad?" Ever so curious as to how he'd come to the conclusion, maybe he was one of those monsters that could read minds! There's no way he was just a normie, she just knew it.

"...that's either the worst or most appropriate lame-o pun I've ever heard."
Sure, where he came from they did about as much cheer leading as they did fear mongering and cold, heartless pranks (which he did give 'em props for, he admired dedication), but...fearleaders? Talk about truth in advertising. Maybe Heather was one of 'em, it'd definitely explain a lot.
"And I didn't, I was just goin' by that frilly outfit you got on."
...and the fact that she was so cheerful and bubbly it made him want to start breaking things, but even Duncan could keep some thoughts to himself.
"Seein' as how you're dripping wet, either you're new, or you've been living under a rock since I got here and just decided to go for a swim in the fountain ( ... )

"This old thing? These are my normal clothes, they don't look anything like my fearleading uniform!" She replied with a slight shake of her head, frown vanishing almost as soon as it had come. There was, however, a curious tilt of her head as the rest of his words finally sunk in.
"...you're not a monster, are you?" She did sound just the least bit disappointed, but not too much so. It really would have been nice to have someone from back home, she knew well enough that this was very far away from where she was accustomed to being.

It's a little bit of a surprise to see someone still wet walking on a street a few blocks from the coral, especially along this street, but she crosses over to great the apparently-human girl.
"Is there any chance that you are new to the city?"
Reply
"Very new! I suppose you could say, I've just dropped in? Made quite a splash too!" She said rather excitedly, thinking her answer very clever as she let a wide smile pass over her lips.

When he passes the soaking wet girl, he doesn't even notice at first. Too lost in machine thoughts. When the realization hits him, he pauses though, glancing back at her, and calling out to her. "Hey, you new here?"
Reply
"I am, how could you tell?" And then the pause and a bit of laughter as she looked down at herself. "It's because I'm wet, isn't it? Everyone comes from up there, don't they?"
Just that casual point up towards the top of the bubble before looking back to him.

"Yeah, everybody seems to arrive here soaked to the bone. Though I guess seeing as this is an underwater city that is the least mysterious thing of the entire situation."
Reply
"Have you been here long yourself?" She finally asked as she looked down again, head tilting curiously. She could only assume he wasn't new since he did seem very dry.
