No, you see -- this place, it --

[ It still seems strange to say, but well, he is talking to a ghost. ]

This place seems to be between worlds. It brings people from many different times and places. We cannot get out.

[Her shoulders sag considerably at this; it's a wonder she didn't sink into the ground.]

But I need to get back! If I don't hurry home soon... I won't have a home to return to.

Don't worry!

[ He feels badly for upsetting her. Even though she is a ghost, she looks so much like a little girl. ]

From what I have heard, when this place releases you, you go straight back to where you came from-- and to the exact moment you came from. So it will be like you were never gone.

Yes. Sometimes people just up and disappear. Some have gone home for a while, weeks or even years, and then been brought back here. But for us it seems only a few days have passed.

Time travel was never a concept I quite understood, even though grandma tried her best to explain it when she told me her stories.

But... I suppose I can believe you. Or, at least, I do hope what you've said is true. [She's still worried, obviously, but his words have put her somewhat at ease.] Thank you.
