Wataru answered the SFC almost immediately, his mask obscuring his face but his voice worried.

"Gamzee? Is everything all right? What's going on, are you okay?"

"I don't fuckin' know. You need to come get me, bro." Gamzee's voice shook, but at least it was his, modulating across the different syllables. "My head hurts so fuckin' much."

Wataru's voice shook a little also, but he fought to steady it, already running towards where he thought Karkat had sent Gamzee and his partner to fight.

Gamzee mumbled the parts of the address he could still remember, leaning his forehead against his knees. Everything hurt and he was so tired. He didn't want to be here, with a pan of spooks that whispered sharp and loud and too much blood running cold down his skin. He wanted to be home, he wanted his Goat, he wanted Wataru.

The warhammer still laid in front of him, its smile mockingly cheerful.

"Mostly, yes." Wataru's voice was even, but cold. He could feel his pulse pounding hard in his throat. "I came back early after I got a call from Gamzee that I needed to pick him up."

Wataru came fully into the room and pushed the door shut with a snap, his dark eyes flat. "He was alone when I got there. Why was that, Vantas-san?"

"He couldn't stand or walk when I found him, so he's lucky he wasn't eaten, but he's with Rapunzel-san now, so he should be fine."

His expression hardened. "You lied to me, Vantas-san. You told me he was being sent out with a partner and you lied." He fought to stay calm, but his voice finally broke at that, his face crumpling. He clenched his fists to keep his hands from shaking. "Why? I'm--I'm supposed to be his moirail, I'm supposed to protect him, it was your idea! Why would you keep me from doing that after it was made my responsiblity?"
