Rose was not very good at staying in one place. Pete's world had given her new things to discover through its inherent different-ness and her work with Torchwood; so even though she wasn't traveling, she'd still had lots to keep her mind off things. Here, however, she was trapped in one city that had fewer clues as to how to leave than did Pete's world.

So it was she was a little disgruntled as she headed towards the plaza to pick up some food, and probably snack away on chips as a side-trip. She didn't have much time to focus on her mood, however, when she passed a damp new arrival in town and did a violent double-take.

"...Jack?"

"We should probably get you a towel," Rose says, patting Jack on the arm, before turning to mouth a pleased (though very unnecessary) "He's alive!" to the Doctor.

She'll have to ask more details to the circumstances of Jack's current living status later. She just can't believe that all in the span of a relatively short time she has both Jack and the Doctor back.

The Doctor had recently decided to stock his TARDIS pockets with towels for just such an occasion. He flings one at Jack's head.

"All right you. Get dried off, and no flirting for at least 24 hours."

The Doctor poignantly avoids eye contact with Rose.

Jack laughed but took the towel and dried himself off the best he could.

"Doctor, please, I thought you knew me better than that."

He winked at Rose and tried his best to look innocent.

Rose scoffs and shakes her head. "Don't give me that, you're not fooling anyone," she says in mock-reprimand.

She glances over at the Doctor again; he seems unsurprised by Jack, and she recognises his 'hiding something' demeanour, but she doesn't ask-- not yet, anyway.

"Jack, there is something odd about the locals here. They are pretty tight lipped. Do you think you could get something out of them with your... talent?"

Jack could tell there was something going on between The Doctor and Rose, he wasn't that thick, however, he had also decided not to referee...for now.

He hesitated at the question, only for a moment, but a moment longer than he probably should have.

"I knew you'd learn to see it my way! I'd love to help, just point out the people you need me to...'say hello' to."

"None of the locals have the same sort of tattoo that the rest of us do," Rose told him, lifting a hand to expose the mark on her right inner forearm. "Or at least if they do it's not where we can see. They really don't like to give information," she added. She'd tried flirting for answers, herself, but that and any other method always resulted in a clamming up and quick excuse to leave.

The Doctor had also attempted to interrogate the locals, but the straight forward way did nothing either. Perhaps Jack's special charm could do something...?

The Doctor clears his throat. "In any case, the locals are clearly hiding something. The people in charge here are acting suspiciously, too."

Jack rolled up his own sleeves and sure enough, there on his forearm near his elbow was the same swirly tattoo that Rose had. He made a sound of indignation.

"That better not stay there forever! I never planned on getting a tattoo."

Stupid place, ruining his perfect skin.

"I'll see what I can do; start with the locals and go from there. How long have you two been here?"

"Just a little over a month, for me," Rose responded. "Not too long, really. And no idea how long we'll be here, but-- I'm all right with that."

"I arrived sometime before Christmas, which would have been about two months ago, I suppose."

The Doctor paused for a second, then continued, "I'd like to get to the bottom of whatever has been dragging people here. There is obviously some enormous, and possibly unnatural power source here if it can pull people in from different timelines and universes. Whatever it is is making me uneasy."

That was a while. Usually the Doctor wouldn't stay that long in one place, but if they were really stuck, then that would explain it.

"So you need me to make nice with the higher-ups? I can do that. Anything else?"
