[She was still trying to run from her 'parents' when she saw the boy put a hand on the nearest wall. She approached him and she could feel tears streaming down her face, from her own misfortune and for his. Seeing people that should be dead and having them chase you, is horrendous.]

Ghost are chasing you too?

[Although she put as a question, she knew that's exactly what he was seeing. She was trying to get him to talk to her.]

[A voice-not theirs.

He doesn't look at her, and instead lets out a quiet, shaky-]

Yeah.

[... He should've just stayed in his apartment.]

[She comes up to stand right next to him. Although she can't see his ghosts, she can see her own. Her parents still stand in front of her, as though their mocking her.]

I..almost wish that mine would talk. It's been a long time since I heard their voices.

[He still doesn't look at her.]

... I'd say you're lucky.

[A frown as he sees Billy, he's been dealing with this himself but-- but the kid is so young. He hasn't had time to deal with death's like America. So, he comes closer and settles a hand on Billy's shoulder. In a soft voice, he speaks.]

Hey, Hey Billy. Billy, listen to me. They're not real, okay? Not real. I know you probably know that but come on, believe it.

[He jerks at the touch, because it's tangible and real, before he realizes who it is.

He looks away again, his headphones still over his ears.]

I'm trying...!

[And after he says that, he can hear her, scolding him for rudeness-

-He's never wished for silence so badly before.]

Try harder!

[It's an order, as if from the military itself. He's not going to let the people he knows and cares about here in Vatheon succumb to this. If he won't, they won't.]

Try harder! They're not real and if you let them get to you, you're going to lose to this city. You're not a loser so try harder!

[He freezes at the tone, as the tears start running down harder.]

I don't know how!

[Lose to this city, huh...? He's always been able to feel it, the events here pushing him further and further-and he wonders if this is what'll finally push him over the edge.

... He hates it, how weak he is.]

[And there is Matthew, eyes half-lidded, expression exhausted and pained. But he sees Billy's panicked run and steps forward, dropping from the roof to the ground and trying very hard to ignore the beautiful woman who follows him.

For a moment he just watches, wearily. And then--]

Billy. Breathe.

[He gives a start. It dawns on him who it is, before he looks away, to the point where he's just about staring at the wall.

Better than looking at Matthew. Better than looking at them.]

What are you...?

[Why is he here?]

[He narrows his eyes and reaches out, placing a hand on Billy's shoulder, pushing down slightly.]

...This week is hard on everyone. It won't last. It's just a curse.

[If the words sound practiced, it's because he has been repeating them to himself, over and over again.]

[He jerks away.]

I know.

[Matthew's words only serve to weigh down on him further. Reassuring words, gestures of comfort-they're all too familiar, from that time. Like they'll change anything.

His parents are still dead.

And they're still there.]

[She hadn't expected Billy to have his own trauma. That's... reason for concern alone, really. So she just places a hand atop his head as she approaches.]

They're not solid, Billy. Not here. They'll go away.

[He stiffens at the touch, but doesn't look at her.

... She's both the first and last person he wants to see right now, to be honest.]

... Leave me alone.

Can't. If I have to choose between the illusioned company of a friend I left behind or the real company of a friend I refuse to leave behind, isn't the choice obvious?

[She ruffles his hair a bit.]

[He moves away-the gesture really isn't appreciated right now-before leaning against the wall and slouching down into a sitting position.

He stares at the ground.]

... I hate this place.

[ And when he stops... it's then that he approaches Billy, smiling, smirking. Because he knows. He can hear the thoughts in the boy's mind, and this amuses him so greatly. ]

... Running from your problems? You can't really solve ANYTHING by yourself, can you?

[... Not someone he wants to see. Definitely not someone he wants to see!]

I...

[He can't find any words to defend himself-because he knows what he's saying is true.]

You can't deny it, can you, kid? Because it's true.

[ A laugh. ]

You must feel ten kinds of useless. That what they're telling you? How useless you actually are?

What? No!

[They're his parents-they wouldn't go that far. Instead, they're simply scolding him for being rude.]
