Oh you made this book sound really intriguing. I have found the cross-dressing thing interesting recently. Loved the quotes about the effect he had on the audiences when he was performing. I have to admit the cross-dresser named Lola has that old Kinks song going through my head. Must go listen to other music.

I enjoyed it. It had pull, energy, honesty ... I tend to read slightly more literary things, but entertaining pulp is fine with me - I think we need more of that.

Me too. Absolutely not my type of story, and I wrestled with it, but in the end, it did intrigue and captivate me, so yeah, kudos to him. :)

I completely agree with you - not usually my type of story either. But, as with you it totally pulled me in and I ended up reading it in one sitting, despite the fact that I had a million other things to do - LOL.

Oooh, what a lovely review! I think I shall have to read this book--I am developing a real thing for playing with gender.
