After his argument with Axel after he'd RTC'd, the castle had suddenly seemed a lot less welcoming than usual. He needed space to think, to try and sort out just what was happening with his two friends now. To try and figure out why Xion had left - and why Axel had attacked her, come to that. He still couldn't believe that. There had to have been another way, right? You didn't just attack your friends like that, no matter how weird they were acting.
So he'd turned right around and made himself another dark corridor to take himself somewhere, anywhere. He hadn't planned to end up on that dark beach. But once he was there, it seemed as good a place as any to sit and try and wrap his head around what was happening. It was quiet, at least.
He'd been sitting on a boulder staring out at the light on the horizon for ages, now - he didn't even know how long. And he still couldn't come up with any answers.
He sighed glumly, drawing his knees up to his chest. He just felt so... out of the loop.

"Who's there?" he demanded as he jumped to his feet. He squinted into the darkness, frowning suspiciously. Only other Nobodies could use the dark corridors to get somewhere like this, right? Was it someone from the Organisation come to check on him, or...?

But--how? She would've sensed its light before it appeared! And that boy, now that she got a look at his face--
He looked just like Ven.
She swung her Keyblade down, going into her basic fighting stance. She knew better than to attack first. That was how these shadows tended to swarm a person and if this was some kind of trick she wasn't going to fall for it.
But then he spoke, and her heart clenched painfully. What kind of friend was she, to realize she'd forgotten until that very moment how his voice had sounded--!
"My name is Aqua," she said carefully, still wary, "Who are you?"

Aqua could feel the weight of Ven on her back, lifeless and unmoving even as she brought him back home as she'd been supposed to do much much earlier. He was breathing, true, but his eyes.... to look into them told her he might as well have been dead.
With this image in mind, Aqua finally opened her eyes, her body lethargic after two days of sleep. Where was she now? How had she gotten here? She couldn't quite remember.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a flash of blond hair. Ven? No, wait. Not him, but someone like him. A different person entirely.
"Roxas?"

He'd just been wondering how long he'd need to keep checking up on Aqua (or even how long it had been already; it was difficult to tell when the sun was always in the same place) when he heard her speak, and turned around in surprise.
"Aqua! You're awake." There was a little relief in his voice as he said it; she was really alright.
