Return to High School

I just finished (re)reading Lord of the Flies.  Sometimes I wonder why these kinds of books were assigned during high school.  Either teenagers can't be fully aware of the subtle connotations in these books or I'm lagging far behind.  After this reading -- over a decade later --, I couldn't believe the story had ended ... and I said outloud, "Yep, ( Read more... )

I'm constantly arguing with one of my friends because she thinks I'm a cynic and I have to keep explaining, I don't think the worst of people, I just think of them what they provide me.

When asked why he had such a dim view of how children would behave without adult supervision the author replied, "I taught grammar school for 20 years." So no, not cynicism just reality. Besides, it's a hell of a lot easier for those of us who were on the bottom of the food chain or outside the system completely to see highschool for what it really is: a feeding frenzy. And children in a group are the embodyment of pure evil if left to their own devices.

Maybe that amulet of jade you're wearing is distorting the gem's outlook on life. :P
