Great story. Heartbreaking.
This part made me mad, though.
He doesn’t really know why he believed John when he said it was love - why he let himself fall like that, again.
Yes, he had a history, but he ignored John, and believed all sorts of horrible thigns about him, and still he thinks this sort of thing? At this point, I'm not sure he deserves John.

I have some minor issues with the characterization of John, but the story itself is wonderful - beautifully written and emotional without getting too much like a 'Lifetime' network movie.
