My personal experience suggests that participating in Second Life can have beneficial effects on your first life, but that's not at all the same as a prescription to treat a problem or illness. Not at all.

In fact, the idea of tossing together a population of traumatized people to figure out how to resolve their issues on their own is rather frightening.

I sincerely hope that people role playing in this way are doing so either strictly for the enjoyment of it, or that it is supplementary to getting actual assistance with the very real problems associated with early trauma.

As with the rest of human activities, I'm sure there is a distribution of rather varied circumstances, some healthy and positive and some not.

[Edit:] P.S. Prok is the epitome of mean-spirited self-righteousness masquerading as discourse, and has been on my mute list since before writing that 2009 rant. I'll assume some hurtful spite and skip it.
