The Gregson house was a lot busier than it had been for the last couple of months. More cramped, too, or so it seemed. Bod had been downstairs helping out with various odds and ends before coming up to Kate's room. He pushed open the door and slipped in, smiling over at her.

"Kate?" he asked quietly just in case she happened to be napping. "Are you awake?"

"My eyes are open," Kate pointed out, glancing over. "Not that that's exactly a guarantee..."

There were a few days here and there where she wasn't sure she was quite awake once her shift was done, after all. But she didn't feel sleepy right now.

"I couldn't see that from here," Bod said, closing the door behind him and padding over to the bed. He took a seat on the edge and smiled down at her. "Are you all right?"

Jack hadn't checked in with Kate in what felt like a couple of months, and being back and forth from Barry Island reminded him that was not a good thing. He missed her.

He sent a quick message.

Hi, how is exciting Kansas?

not exciting. same old same old except parents are back and Bod and I are moving.

That about summed it up, really. He hadn't missed much.

Where to? he typed back. Island is in one piece, btw. Saw mitchell yesterday.

kansas city proper, so not far.

And nowhere exciting. But it was still their very own... rented apartment.

was mitchell in one piece?

She had no reason to think he wouldn't have been, but you know. It was a thing to ask, with them.
