Argh, drama. Way too much drama, and no internet to dump it on*. It's been hell. but My god, I've missed youse guys. I'm back, and that's a funny story in itself. Let me see if I can catch you all up with everything

Fluffy, darling! *glomps* Been wondering how you were, chica.
I'm sorry there's been drama and finances pinched tighter than a hemostat. But that's great about the lady next door turning out to be nice and your friends pitching in. *hugs*
There's a Save-a-Lot up the main street from our house, and it's really quite nice, even though the building is not new. Aldi was skimpy on the produce Friday, so I popped into SAL and picked up a few things. Corgikid seems to be going through his last growth spurt and blazes through about $40 in food every time I turn around. Yeesh!
Hey, sweetie! It's good to hear from you, too! Hope all's well and no more disk issues.
I'm definitely learning the difference between need and want. OTOH, my friend gave me a WalMart GC for my birthday, and I got a couple frivilous items---hair tint, so I *am* blonde again (albeit a rather dark gold) and replacement batteries for the NookLight.
Our Aldi usually has pretty nice produce. My friend SBJB says they remind her of a toy grocery store, and I know what she means: You can practically see from one side to the other and there's not a lot of merchandising clutter.
Things are getting better all the time. My neck still gets stiff sometimes as the muscle damage from the surgery itself is healing up, but all the sensation is back in my hand except for the nail of my right index finger and I have strength back in my hand and arm. So all is very good with my neck.
The small size one of the things I love about Aldi; it's so easy to get in and out of the place. And I don't come home mentally tired like I do after going to Kroger and staring at the 40 different varieties of mustard when all I need is one little bottle of the plain yellow kind.
The Aldi a few blocks from our house is very popular and always busy. I got there about 1 p.m. Friday and the fruit was pretty much all gone, thus the stop at Save-a-Lot.
Our Aldi is right across the street from WalMart. It's usually pretty quiet---ten people is a traffic jam!---and if I just need something basic, I'll pop into Aldi so I don't have to hike across a half-acre of parking lot and two tootball fields worth of aisles. Most of the time, their store brand is just as good as the name brand.
Yay on your recovery---feeling in your hands is a GOOD thing to have!
I work on the same street as the Brighthouse beach office so I turned ours in on my lunch break. We recently switched to ATT Uverse. LOTS more channels, home phone and internet for around $40 a month less than we were paying BH for a lot less choices. I've been very happy with it thus far~ it's been about a month. They enticed me with the offer of a $100 Visa gift card for switching~ that sealed the deal! We got to keep the same phone # that we've had for 27 years as well. I am not typically good with change but this was a positive one.
Route 66 reruns? How awesome is that? I have a massive George Maharis crush based on almost nothing but his rendition of Teach Me Tonight and his performances in Sylvia and The Satan Bug. I'd love to see Route 66, although I suspect there probably a LOT of values dissonance cringe-factor involved. Plus Martin Milner even younger than his Adam 12 days.
MM is so baby-faced I can hardly stand it. I *thought* you had a thing for GM, which is why I mentioned 66 to begin with.
And you're so right about dissonance. So far, I've seen an ep where there is much fraughtness about an out-of-wedlock child, and another where an abused woman takes refuge with a revival show and the preacher has a five minute monologue about the love of JE-sus! I watched, nonplused, going, "That would never in a million years fly on network today."
The preacher would probably turn out to be the father of the child or some kind of scoundrel. (Hah, just realized I was conflating two different eps, but somehow it still makes sense...or maybe that's just my throat infection talking.)
Poor baby, I hope you feel better soon! I still have my tonsils, and growing up in NY was one long tonsilitis attack from November thru April. Throat infections suck!
On a more cheerful note, I'm writing, hooray, hooray, and I could really use a beta, probably over the weekend. (You in particular, to make sure I'm not inadvertantly commiting any gross violations of Judiasm.) You may or may not be familiar with the original fandom, but since this is a historical AU, it probably doesn't matter.
