I had to leave the laptop over at J's so she could deal with a virus that was keeping me off the internet. Smart friends are a good thing to have! All's well now

I doubt the city would make you get a permit to replace an existing fence. You could call city hall and see about the ordinance just to be sure.
Lowe's sells black aluminum fence panels (sections that look like plain wrought iron) for the cheapest price I've ever seen. You'd still need someone to put it up because it requires posts sunk in cement, but it's an affordable option. I had to research it for St. P's when I realized they'd neglected to fence an area next to the church with a four and half foot drop-off into a paved courtyard. Which wouldn't be an issue for the parishioners, but is for the skateboarders who trespass on the property.
Technically, I'm in county, not city, and I've already spoken to them. Of course,m they want a piece of the action!
Much as I love aluminum and bargains, I fear that it would end up "disappearing" for scrap if I went that way. Call me paranoid, but I'm pretty sure galvanized chain link is the way to go.
I can just imagine your skateboard issues, since the little monsters *love* my spare driveway as a ramp---why I am installing a gate, and possibly stringing a chain between a couple of posts....
Ah, I hadn't thought of that. St. P's is surrounded by retired folks who are home all day, so we don't have much of a vandalism problem.
Our driveway at home slants downhill and curves to connect to the side street (we live on a corner) and we've had problems with skateboarders and kids on bicycles using it as a stunt ramp.
Thanks for the 411 on the candy~ stopped by Target after work as I was on the island- OMG are they ever delish!! Rich enough that I'll only eat one at a time therefore making them last. Caramel and sea salt are a divine combo!!!
I'm not usually a fan of caramel, but I'll make an exception for Ghirardelli, with or without sea salt.
When I was at the Ghirardelli store at Downtown Disney last spring with Mb, I tried their sea salt-caramel hot chocolate, and it was AMAZING. If you ever get over there, I highly recommend it!

For that matter, I'm still enjoying the novelty of being able to shop without counting every nickel in my purse....
