Well excuse the fuck out of me

I was raised to understand that the "correct" response to being given a gift is "Thank you" and a smile. It doesn't matter if the gift is godawful, it doesn't matter if you're going to privately roll your eyes, regift it or throw it in a drawer. You smile and say "Thanks!" to the person who gave it to you. Period ( Read more... )

That leaves me almost speechless and makes me hope the person involved is under 10. Except it sounds like they're not.

Nope. Adult. In response to my email saying "Merry Christmas, you're getting X from me" I got a reply saying "X sucks, Y is better". I fired back an email saying "Y wasn't an option I had to choose from, you're getting X, Merry freakin' Christmas." Sheesh, some people!

I typically don't get many gifts- my children always do and perhaps a box of candy or something from a job- but I am always grateful and humbled that ANYONE bothered to think of me!

In the words of my dear departed Dad, "Fuck em if they can't take a joke." Always makes me laugh!!!

With the exception of J, and being given my pink tree, my RL Xmas has been pretty sucky in general. My online Xmas, on the other hand, has been pretty good...I've gotten more cards, *hugs* and well-wishes from people I've never met than from my so-called friends. Everybody I know seems to be dealing with their own individual misery this year and not enough Joy to the World to go around.

I think around the holidays it is easy to lose track of what folks have done for us throughout the entire year and focus on the one holiday---a lot of folks don't take measures to help themselves and expect others to take up the slack...we too often forget that there are others going through difficulties that we can't understand and focus on ourselves . Can make for a long pity party- especially during the holidays.
We all have much to be thankful for just if we are on a computer- that means we have electricity and usually cable or phone service.
We have roofs over our heads and the ability to stay warm / cool and dry. That is better than most of the world---let's be thankful for the good in our lives and help ourselves to make the not so good things get better. It's all in how we look at it and how we respond to it.
A great 2010 is ahead!!!!

I'm particularly thankful that I'm in Florida and not up to my ass in snow like so much of the country. I have friends, health, and the basics for existance---a lot more than many people, as you so rightly pointed out. I also have an essentially optimistic nature, and I agree, 2010 is going to be a good year!

Hideous manners, in the face of your bravery and exceptional grace. Karma will reward each of you as you deserve. And *you* deserve so much. I've been heartened and made to smile by your posts all year. Here's another hug for you.

That person? Gets coal.

Oh gosh, I'm blushing! Thanks so much! (It hasn't felt like bravery OR grace, just trying to bumble through all the "NOW WHAT?!") *hugs back*

HOLY SHIT! I mean it's a tradition at my Aunt's gatherings to make fun of my mother's presents, but never to her FACE!!! Good lord. That is a major case of "Raised By Wolves."

It's so nice to see how many friends I have who are outraged on my behalf! This was an email from someone who is usually not that tactless, but this got the prize. *eyeroll*
