Yeah, Monday....

Yesterday evening, I called Kat to touch base, and she said her car was messed up. She didn't want to drive it to the doctor's today because her neighbor told her she might get arrested. Her appointment was for 10 AM, which is kind of early if I was going to hit the food pantry and go pick her up, so I told her I'd pick her up early, we could go to ( Read more... )

That neighbour sounds like he likes to wind Kat up just to watch what happens next. What a twat. I'll bet he pulled the wings off flies when he was little, too. Dick.

He's a clueless prat and it's a shame he reproduced. If he comes nosing around while I'm there, I'll hand him his head.

I'm probably missing something here, but since the food pantry exists to help people who need some assistance getting by, the idea having a "contest" to get better items bothers me a little.

It's along the line of, they get donations of stuff from supermarkets, but not enough that everybody gets one. The other stuff in the box besides t-bones, for instance, was boneless, skinless chicken breasts, other cuts of beef, and there were also choices of bakery seconds like tiramisu and pumpkin pie. In order to give every one a fair chance at the odd lots, there's a can (held up above eye level), and you get a chance to pick a flat square of wood from it. The square says either 'NO' or 'WIN'. I've won two weeks in a row, but I lost a few times before that, so I think it evens out. (And tomorrow night, once it thaws out, I'll have steak! Yay!)

OK. If it works out for everyone and it's fair, that's great. I'm certainly not in a position to judge.

It's one of the biggest churches in the area, and they've been doing this since long before I came along and they seem to have the bugs worked out pretty well. The only thing *I* don't like is how they start trying to hustle you out the door when you get to the end with the day-old bread. (Dude, gimme a minute, I'm trying to see if there's any seeded rye bread.)

I have a suspicion the next door neighbor wants to convince Kat she can't drive her car so he can have it at his disposal. Bastard.

Make sure there's a card in Kat's handbag with emergency contact phone numbers for you, BC, and GK, just in case she becomes antsy about being with a stranger during the layover and the wait.

Yeah, the great thing about Hoarders is you can look at the people of the week and honestly say, "Not on my worst day has my house ever looked THAT bad." :)

Thanks for the tip about the contact info! She'll have her phone with her, but just in case...I'll also pack a duplicate in her luggage, just in case.

"Not on my worst day has my house ever looked THAT bad."

Or, "Not on my worst day have I ever been that crazy.". I admit, I have my issues and there is a big part of me that just wants to give up and be led like a child---but if I could get actual help, I should hope I wouldn't be having tantrums about rags and spoiled food and whatnot.

Clearly many of those folks have some psychological issues and there have been a few who I thought had probably never been taught how to take care of a house, but a fair number of them behave like spoiled brats, regardless of how old they are.
