We interrupt this post for pie-in-the-sky

Sometimes I need to remind myself that I'm working *toward* something. In this case, my bedroom has been a Pit for...quite a while now. I'm making progress on it, but it's a case of forest? What forest? I don't see any forest---all these damn trees are in the way ( Read more... )

Sounds to me like they should have paid you to take that paint. I like the sound of what you're planning, especially as it should mean you end up with a really light and cheery room...

What happened was, I was given two cans of paint, one white, one dark brown. I just wanted to add a *little* of the brown to the white, but the person who was "helping" me didn't listen and dumped the whole thing in. *shrug* No use fussing over poured paint, since the paint was free and the help was welcome. At the time, I had brown paisley bedding, so it wasn't that tragic, but now, I'm just OVER IT.

The room faces southeast, so it ought to be very sunny and tropical, which is what I want. Ideally, it'll look cool and breezy even in July!

*shakes pom-poms* Go, Fluffy, go!

Is there a Habit for Humanity Re-Store anywhere within striking distance? You might find paint there super cheap, and you could call before you go to save on the gas.

And there is one in Melbourne:

Oh my gosh! Now you've got me scheming about who do I know who's got a truck or van? Because there is such a list of stuff I need, like a new vanity for the hall bath (old one is 50 years old and gnarly), and some drywall, assorted doors...as well as smaller stuff like paint and new bathroom faucets. (Hey, I'm repurposing the sink and I already have a countertop!) Hmm. Must see if I can talk Mb into investigating it. She's doing repairs to her place, and come to think of it, her ex-in-laws (with whom she's still on very good terms) have a truck....

This also could be the way to go with getting your back doors repaired and the fridge closet fixed up.

Hence drywall and assorted doors---and a few bricks for the other side of the sliding glass door opening, and a bag or two of cement...talk about happy hunting grounds!

I think I can picture the finished room -- very pretty and serene.

Your proposed decorating scheme sounds so pretty and relaxing, the kind of room you'd never want to leave! I don't know why I didn't think of the rehab store; one of my friends swears by it. (She was able to get all the gutter for her house for something like $30.00.) I'm glad someone else is on the ball!

There used to be a builder's surplus and salvage place just out of town, but apparently they went under. Habitat does good work, though, and even though it's not exactly close by, if the savings are good enough, it's still worthwhile.

Rain gutters...hmm, something ELSE I need.

Thanks. Today has more or less been a day of rest: church, TV, some writing. How's the move going?

I recommend a couple painkillers and a long, hot bath or shower!
