You've been a busy bee! My day was pretty boring compared to yours--got up and hit Wal-Mart for some laundry soap (happened to be on sale) as well as some travel size shampoo and hair spray for trip to NY. Came home and did several loads of laundry and folded it all.
Had a short nap around 4:30 and then made my famous baked beans for dinner alongside some hot dogs and toasted buns. Have been on job link off and on all day - sent out a couple of resumes. Now ready to clean up the kitchen and call it a night pretty soon. I am one of those who can't go to bed with dishes in the sink so must load dishwasher prior to nodding off...

I'm still working on the whole empty-sink-at-bedtime routine...I fall prey to the "It's just a couple things!" trap, and the next thing I know, I've run out of forks and I'm down to mixing bowls.

Once you get used to leaving an empty sink at bedtime, you'll never turn back! It's nice to wake up in the morning and have nothing that has to be cleaned up. It didn't always work when the children were small but now it's mostly just the 2 of us.

I'll be checking your post from (hopefully) cooler upstate NY. If I can sneak some kind of surprise for you in my suitcase, I will. I know you are from NY so name your poison if there's anything special you'd like for a belated bday gift.

GK was telling me how it was 65F last week where she lives in MA, so upstate ought to be comfortable. Whereabouts will you be? Are we talking about souvenir stands or thrifting/antiquing? Enquiring minds want to know!

Yah! for fabulous closet finds! I have a couple of summer blouses that need minor alteration, so Sunday when Miss V. and I went to Hancock Fabric, I picked up the notions needed to do that.

It occurred to me one day not long ago that I immediately put down what I'm doing and sew for anyone who asks me but always put off fixing things for myself. As a result, I have a lot of things that fit but don't get worn because they need to be taken up or a strategic snap added. So I'm fixing that.

Oh, I took a page out of your cookbook and made turkey meatballs from a recipe in that 1,000 Lowfat Recipes cookbook and served it up with a homemade marinara-mushroom sauce on wheat-free rotini. It was delicious, and a pound of that ground turkey goes a long way.

Funny you should say that---I spent an hour in front of the TV this evening sewing up my black half-slip. It's the only half-slip I have, I've probably had it for 10 years. The elastic stretched out a few years ago, and in order to be able to keep wearing it (because a new one would run me $12 or so), I grabbed a strip of elastic, cut it to a length that would go around my waist and stretch enough to pull down over my hips. I rolled the waistband down and safety-pinned it in place. Yes, I know, tacky as hell but it got the job done. It's been that way for...I'd guess going on a year. I've worn it, washed it, rolled my eyes when I "noticed" the half-assed mending...well, this evening, I actually parked myself on the bed for an hour with needle and thread and stitched down the rolled-over waistband. (The safety pins were rusting, that's how long they were in!) Because I'll be shopping tomorrow, and at some point this week, getting my dress for the wedding altered, and I really couldn't stand to see the horrified look on GK's face at ( ... )

I can top the safety pin story--my daughter went to Catholic school and had to wear uniforms. I can't sew so her hems got stapled when they started to come out!! Poor kid- she used to say the staples scratched her legs. :)

I have 1/2 a bag of LUSH stuff in my bathroom right now. It's a wonderful store. The bath bombs are the best!!!! Lesigh. Bath and bomb should not be put in the same sentence let alone be called a product! LOL! I did that evening in for 2 or something like that. (You and your friend get facials, etc.)

I'm really looking forward to the "girls' night" in Tampa...it'll give me a better idea of how some of the products perform before my shopping spree. I need to find my rollers and remember to pack them so I can set my hair for the party on Saturday. (I hope they get on the ball with that---if people don't get invited soon, they might make other plans!)
