I put myself to bed early last night (for me, 2AM is early) and tossed and trned quite a lot, but was actually conscious before 11AM, which is encouraging.

Ran around with missybrat last night, first to Big Lots, then Aldi's (again!), capping it all off with WalMart. Shopping with 'Brat is always a soothing, companionable activity. We ooh and ahh and ( Read more... )

I'm sorry about Kat. My brother-in-law also had Korsakov's (in his case from long-term alcoholism) in the last few years of his life.

I also got tea at Big Lots: Twining's decaff English breakfast and a box of Twining's camomile, which is delicious but appears to do nothing for my insomnia. And I found a box of most marvelous smelling lemon-verbena soap.

Do you ever make homemade salmon patties with canned salmon? It's really easy and one can ($2.30 at Big Lots) makes a plateful of them. The guys don't like them much or we'd have them more than once every two or three years. :)

I'm going to presume that that's some variety of add-breadcrumbs-and-eggs and pan-fry?

Tea: I detest chamomile. I don't suffer from hay fever, but if I did? That would totally set it off. I like mint tea, orange spice, and this Herbal Unwind stuff is really delish.

At first, Kat thought it was the chemo, but apparently not. Her mother also has memory issues, but *she's* 97. Kat just turned 66.

That's pretty much it. You drain the canned salmon, remove the skin (just because it's unappetizing looking), add an egg, a slice of bread crumbled up, a tablespoon of mayo, teaspoon of dried dill, 1/4 teaspoon paprika and a pinch of black pepper. Salt if you like it, as the canned salmon already has salt in it. Whip it all thoroughly with a fork, shape into five or six patties and pan fry until golden brown on both sides ( ... )

Hmm, I don't have any dill, but I picked up some scallions, I'll bet they'd kick it up a notch. Although, I still need to get the canned salmon. The tall cans, right?

Chemicals: She went through chemo previously during the early 80s, and I'm sure the drugs then were less sophisticated, so it could well have something to do with that.

Car lust: The Impala came in a convertible, there's one I've drooled over down in Melbourne. Oh, and speaking of red Chevys, I saw a sweet 1960 the other day. *le sigh* If only I could be rich in addition to being so darn gorgeous!

I like Twinings (and not just because Stephen does their ads!). I used to buy Celestial Seasonings all the time but they got rid of a lot of their flavors that I really loved.

Usually, I'm a diet cola drinker, but I'm trying to kick the caffeine habit, so---tea. I tend to look at the ingredients, go, "That sounds good!" and buy it on that basis. Otherwise, I go for that old Southern standard, sweet (iced) tea with lemon. Not so diet, but very refreshing.

Unless you are purchasing decaffeinated tea bags, you are still getting a load of caffeine from tea.
As for the salmon patties, I've grown up on them and my recipe is a bit different: 1 can salmon (undrained with skin and bones left in) 2 eggs beaten and flour until the mixture looks thick- then drop into oil and fry. I love love them. The boys do, too. Hubby sort of rolls his eyes but eats them. I always make butter beans(or field peas or the like) and corn bread to go with them. They were a staple growing up! My Mom puts an onion in hers but I don't like that.

Per the box, "Naturally caffeine free herbal tea". (Although the missing hyphen makes it sound like I shouldn't have had to pay for it.)

I see some salmon experimentation is is order (just as soon as I get some canned salmon).

I like to squeeze fresh lemon on my salmon patties--tartar sauce is too heavy for me.

Yeah, I missed that, but when I called your place, there was no answer. You could leave it by my front door on your way to work, if you can detour that way. Just tuck it between the chalkboard and the wall---that's what that big thing propped up is.

And I'd swear I'd gotten some cheese, but I can't find that either. I'm such a mess....

I'm off to bed again. (up and down from migrain headache, ugh) ****IF**** I go in tommorrow, I'll either drop it on my way to or from work. (It's right around the corner from where I work.. I just have to have my brain function at that time of the morning and not go onto auto-pilot. If I do go in and go on automatic.. I'll just drop it off after work on the way home.)

P.S. Did you call home# or cell#? Either way.. what time was it when you called? I may have been on the phone and not heard the caller ID. (Trying to wish A&B speedy recovery from thier illness.)

I called the house phone, about 45 minutes after you dropped me off.

Btw, I'm loving that tea and may go back and snag some more---it's yummy stuff!

I cut corners in a couple of places so that I could splurge on some gouda cheese yesterday. That is and always will be my favorite- esp for making cheese toast. YUM!!!

I noticed Aldi's has Gouda---I'm fairly impressed by their selection, given the small size of the place. And what I've sampled of their products so far have been top quality. (I've had a couple sandwiches with their smoked swiss and that was quite tasty!)
