The Economy

In my professional opinion, the economy is recovering. Last year, back-to-school shopping was very subdued (and everyone was demanding free shipping). This year, they're in there spending and there's less nickel-and-diming. I think it's a little bit better too. People who have stable jobs are loosening up some and buying what they need. And companies are still offering good sales and incentives to keep business.

It looks like it may be a while before things are much better where I live, though, because the local industry is heavily tied to the housing market. They make carpet, excavators and tractors here, and those industries have not yet begun to recover.

I suspect the carpet mfg will recover before the heavy equipment. There's a lot more demand.

Hmm. Once the economy has improved, I wonder what reason the partners will give us for only giving everyone a 2% "cost of living" raise....

We got NO raises this year, might get some next year, but it remains to be seen if I'll still be there.
