Lots of good sales, a minimum of dumbasses, help desk the whole time---one of the Saturday night stressors was no help desk after 4 PM and one insanely bitchy broad who wanted to dispute an auth hold on her prepaid Visa card. I did not know that about prepaid credit cards. I was considering getting the boy one to use for online purchases since he has a nasty habit of overdrawing his checking account with his debit card. After he bounced a debit two weeks in a row, I put him on a spending diet and had him start posting his bank balance on a sheet of paper on the front of the fridge.

It looks like it would be less hassle just to keep the spending diet in force, especially since he's had no luck finding a summer job.

It's my understanding that they're fine for retail stores, however, I'd recommend that if you *do* experiment with a prepaid card, first and foremost, call the card company and register it. Since there's no name printed on the front, that offers some slight protection and gives online e-tailers something to credit back to, if, for instance, those cool new jeans don't fit and need to be returned. Second, and this goes for any card, but especially prepaid and debit cards, make sure he knows that EVERY TIME he hits the "Send my order" button it generates a hold that's gonna be hanging there for a minimum of 3 days.

Damn, I think it's time for me to stand up at church again and give another talk on E-tailing 101....
