I answered the phone a little while ago and it was S, who wanted to know if I'd like to join her in throwing a yard sale before the weather warms up

i have very mixed feelings about Alton Brown. I love when he talks about science and history but his sense of humor. eurgh. he reminds me of one of those teachers everybody's had in school at least once. You know, the one who thinks he's funny? and he's not?
I don't think I ever had one of those teachers. Mine were either genuinely funny, or they had absolutely no sense of humor whatsoever. AB falls flat occasionally, but at least he doesn't beat his jokes into the ground. On the other hand, it's easy for him to cook divinely in that big studio---let's see him operate in my shoebox of a kitchen!
You won! Yah! And what a great prize. Nothing's better than free money at Target.
A yard sale is a wonderful idea. We last did one two years ago, and it resulted in a major household dejunking. We made $141, and that was with letting most stuff go for under a dollar. Scads of books and toys went for five or ten cents each.
I'm very happy about the $$$. I think I'm going to invest in something I've been wanting/needing for a while---a coat rack to go by my front door. I was looking at some at WalMart recently and shaking my head, because I couldn't justify it during property tax season---but this is found money, and I DO like the sort of thing Target carries.
And the yard sale sounds both fun and productive. On any given non-rainy day, half the city of San Francisco is sitting outside selling their crap to the other half. It's an economy unto itself.
It's been quite a while since I was into yard sailing. These days, I confine my acquisitiveness to Goodwill and the semi-annual sale at the local retirement home. A lot of the stuff I'm trying to rid myself of was purchased during that phase of my life. (Up Fridays and Saturdays before the crack of dawn to pillage and plunder--! *nostalgic sigh*)
Go you! Congrats on the win. Target (pronounced Tarjay) is quite fun to shop at if you have 1. the money to do so and 2. the time to look around and find stuff on clearance! :) Brat
