Finally we end up at a table with five other people, when I notice that one of them is Udi_Manber, who until recently was a CEO of Amazon's A9 before being hired by Google a couple of ( Read more... )

Larry.

The valley is indeed small. Every time I go to an intrview there is always someone there who knew someone who worked with me in a previous company. Russian tech. community is even tighter here. One or two degrees of separation is pretty much guaranteed.

In terms of the number of russians at Google, I would guess 200-300 not counting their new Moscow office they are opening up right now. The interview process is very rigorous, and is different in a certain way. They first hire you, and then tell you what you will do. Pretty much managers get their picks from new hires, sort of like NBA drafts :)

That's the biggest problem here, in this village called Silicon Valley. I guess it is much better if no Russians know anything about you... and vice versa. At least you do not hear dumb rumors about yourself.

Depends on the objective. Potentially I could have shared with him some of the world domination schemes I have in mind, but lack operational funds and infrastructure to implement :) But the biggest danger is of course saying one of the top 10 things he hears from random people everyday, which might be either no-content compliments or things that are interesting for you to find out, but not interesting for him to explain to everyone.
