After Where You'll Find Me and Other Stories (1986) by Anne Beattie, No One Belongs Here More Than You. Stories (2007) by Miranda July was refreshingly off-the-wall. It was difficult to read in it's own way: bitingly satirical of the small tragedies and distortions we put ourselves through in seeking and fleeing genuine intimacy. The characters are so pathetic and horrible, you are fascinated in the hope they will do something right. Relentlessly, they prove themselves.
Now I have moved onto My Undoing, an autobiography by porn star Aiden Shaw. Though not my physical type, his intense charm and sensuality made him a favourite on screen early in my viewing experience. Here is a gripping, candid account of the brokenness behind the screen.
