Here are two images from the barbecue at Dad's place yesterday, provided mostly by Aunt Carol in honour of a visit by Aunt Nancy from Nova Scotia.

First is a photo of Mom's three surviving sisters, (from left) Janet, Nancy and Carol. It characterizes them pretty well. After Mom died, Carol told me, "Whenever you need a mom you can call on me."

I can see some family resemblance in you and John - or is that just a trick of the beard?

Oh yes, there are strong family resemblances. His younger brother, Jim, looks even more like me, minus the beard. But Jim also has some of the same mannerisms, so when I'm talking to him I have the uncanny feeling that I'm talking to myself. When I saw my other cousin Jim (far right in this picture) on Saturday for the first time in some 25 years, he seemed the spitting image of my oldest brother, Bob.

12 of the 19 cousins attended Mom's memorial celebration. I wish I had thought to take a photo then. It strange how much our Irishness shows through, despite being 250 years and many generations removed from the green isle.
