What a strange week this has been: some great blessings mixed among the hardships. I don't have to stop and make myself think in order to see them; they are clearly evident.

My apartment flood hit remarkably few valuable and precious things. This seems almost miraculous. Several years ago Sylvie gave me a small replica of Van Gogh's Sunflowers,

That's great! Yes, the good does seem to overwhelm the sad. I'm glad your mom has learned a lot and that you are getting the chance to hear about it directly from her.

Yes, one of the remarkable things about Mom is that last week, after Dad called with the news about her decline, I only hoped to squeak in a little more quality time with her this weekend. I never dreamt of having a conversation like that. That was a hope I stopped holding onto long ago.

And yeah, I'm excited about the new old apartment. A lot less cluttered. I wanted to record it in the midst of transformation.

Having seen this in my own father's final months, I'm moved once more to see how your mother is learning and growing even towards the end, and how you both heal in the process. Namaste, Van.

I've contemplated decluttering for a long time, and took a few initial steps through the winter, so I was ready when the flood came! It is a relief, and I think my living space will be much nicer as a result.

It has been a very enjoyable day. I spent three blessed hours in my favourite café, surfing and writing on my new laptop, eating a scone and sipping latté. Ahhhhh!
