I am a religious man. These days I rise before 8, make coffee and sit at the morning desk, notebook open, facing the light to ward off shreds of despair, gold weight of sun falling across paper and skin. I write. Writing is my religion, or god, if you will. I depend on it the way others depend on a higher power: for balance, insight, sanity, ( Read more... )

I went to the library after reading your entry and looked up and picked up the book by mark doty as well as a couple of his works of poetry.
I had enjoyed borrowed time so much by paul monette (worth a read if you haven't done so already) I'm looking forward to sharing this author with you.

Over at drood's LJ today (my favorite LJ writer) there was an all-too brief comment thread about Muses.

I have great respect and admiration for your work. How would you describe your muse? Or, do you feel you have one?

As a university student I had a poster tacked to the wall of my dorm. It showed some shafts of light streaming through a canopy of trees, and bore a few lines from Emerson ( ... )
