Snakes Don't Like Baths

Sly (that is now my snake's official name) had a really bad shed a week or so ago.  He's be sloughing off flakes and strips of skin for two weeks now, which is not good.  He's leathery to the touch and he looks just a touch emaciated.  I've been feeding him slightly faster than at the normal rotation, but today I thought I'd help him shed more of ( Read more... )

You may want to try increasing the humidity in the tank. Simply spraying a mist (from a bottle) into the cage about two times a day (morning, afternoon) will help them shed. Or, your can leave a large tub of water in the tank (tupperware is awesome for this) under the heat lamp. He'll eventually figure it out. Snakes are dumb. Mine let a rat actually eat her. Alive. Because she wasn't hungry. And then there were the daily shots (for disease) and having to husk her like corn (because she wasn't shedding right).

This is the first time he's had a bad shed. Every other time went fine. I am usually pretty good about humidity, but it does vary pretty wildly, unfortunately.
