Actually, back when Quinn and Ron and I managed the local *cough* V:TM LARPG *cough* we offered free admission to all special events (we frequently rented halls and galleries to hang out in) to anyone who had a recent donor's certificate. It seemed to have encouraged people.
This I did not know. Mind, my interaction with the Mind's Eye Theatre version of V:tM is remarkably spotty, all things considered. I know there's a few groups out there now, most of them non-official. Something to do with people not wanting to use Requiem rules.
But yes, that encouragement is indeed the sort of thing which I think is quite fitting, and kudos to you for having done so. Now, if there was a way to get it done today -- well, it occurs to me there might be.

blood donation, and platelet donation can be a tricky business as Canadian Blood Services/Red Cross will not let you donate blood if you have received any tattoo work or a piercing within six months. If you're anemic, you cannot donate blood at all, and if you have a bleeding disorder, forget even asking. Also , if you are gay, or an intervenous drug user, or have had unprotected gay sex within a year, not a chance either...although I'm not sure if they may be working on changing that

'Tis true, even I found myself puzzling over a few of the questions (Have you given blood in Quebec? Have you been to Europe for more than three months at any point since 1980? Have you had sex with anyone, male or female, from Central Africa? Have you received drugs in payment for sex? Have you had aspirin within the past three days?) even as I sailed through them. I admire the fact that Canadian Blood Services is taking the safety of the supply seriously (I recall that the Red Cross fumbled the bag very badly back in the 1990s), there's even a trial test for West Nile (though that just means "come back later" if you test positive, apparently). On the other hand, why should my conscientious friend and roommate Joe, who so far as I never takes risks with his health either, be banned by his orientation?
Certainly, I wouldn't look down on those who can't give. But I do think that it might be a nice thing for our community to try to organize a drive. Just an idea I'd like to kick out there.
Cool! I'm O positive...wish I could donate though, they wouldn't let me because of the Diabetes and all. I'm such a giver and I've been left back! *le sigh*

It's far stricter than that (and about male-male sex, which isn't necessarily gay, mm?)
