Do you mind me asking what breed of puppies your sister got?
Penny is supposed to be a boxer/mastiff cross, but her mom didn't look overly mastiff-like when I saw her at the shelter and it is just assumed that her dad was a boxer-type. She was the only survivor of her litter so there weren't any others to compare her to for figuring out her mix.
Aww, well Penny gets called an "undesirable breed" very often, but I know they make amazing pets in the right family so I don't mind. I just tell people what the shelter says she is and if I happen to have a picture of her mom handy I show them that too, it is hard to call her an *ahem* when they see momma-dog looks like a brindle shepherd.
Then again, my late dog Hogan looked like a giant fox but got called a Rotti. People just see what they want to see to suit their purpose.
I was advised to see about getting her certified as a Canine Good Citizen on account of how she looks. It could come in very handy if anyone ever gives us trouble, it might be good for your sister to consider for her pups as well.
