hi i'm new here! just read vampire knight a few days ago and really really really liked it. i have a feeling that the chinese translation is a bit further than that of storm in heaven, so if anybody here can read chinese, i could recommend a site. this is, of course, not meant to offend storm in heaven in any way ( Read more... )

Yep, that's Aidou ^^ I suppose he is cute in his own little way...but I prefer Zero much better. Sometimes I wonder...is that really how you would translate his name?

His name is the kanji for "rei"--meaning zero. His name is written in this kanji, but there is always katakana attached to it that says "zero" so it's supposed to be pronounced as "Zero."

It's kind of the same thing in the title. The mangaka uses the kanji for "knight" but a Japanese person would pronounce it "kishi"--so she writes it in katakana as "Knight" so it's pronounced correctly.

I think it's kind of a stylistic thing that she wanted to give him a name in kanji, even though katakana is used to pronounce it. Also, if the title was written only in katakana (without the kanji), it could be confused with "Night" instead of "Knight."
