I was literally a block away from Chris's tattoo shop when I stopped and turned around.  Not for any real reason, except that I just suddenly . . . didn't know.  I'm getting the Minor Threat sheep on my forearm, which is super prominent, and I guess I just had a moment of being like HOLY FUCK AM I READY FOR THIS FOR LIFE?  I get the feeling I'll do ( Read more... )

Yeah! I had to sorta just have it and look at it. It's such a prominent place I'm considering that I gotta know for sure, because unless I wanna wear long sleeves the rest of my life ain't no way to cover that baby up.

Well, as you said, any sort of second thoughts with tattoos means you're not ready
It's SO TRUE. Because a tattoo is much more than an adornment, it's even much more than a life statement... It's great that you believed to your intuition and stopped.

I know that everybody is different, and all, yet I want to say something about rock-music-related tattoos.
I am 40 now, and I am not listening to the music I used to listen when I was 20-25. Since then not only my taste had changed - my whole understanding of the world had changed, and the world itself had changed, too. It's not that now found the ideas and images that I idealized back then stupid or empty, but I don't find them as powerful and true as I used to when I was younger. And I am so glad that the idea of getting a tattoo didn't occurred to me then! There's nothing still wrong for me with "I am the Lizard King, I can do everything", but I don't feel this way any longer, you know... So may be it's better to leave the rock-rebel stuff to the T-shirts...

Yeah, I totally agree with that. Like, musical tastes and everything change, and yet for me this is really more about a lifestyle choice than a specific band. Like, I chose Minor Threat sheep because they're the band that basically invented that straight edge/sobriety counter movement to the excesses of the 80s, so more than being the band to me, it's more like a statement of my lifestyle choice. And I guess I've always been straight edge, I've never had any interest in smoking and I find alcohol generally repellent when it comes to taking it into my body, I just never knew there was a word for it, that there were people like me. It's a statement I'm totally ready to make and embrace, because it's almost more like I found out what I am, rather than finding a movement that I could live within, if that makes sense? But it's such a prominent place I had to be 100% certain, because there's really no covering your forearm up.

How's that working for you? You liking your cut out so far?!

It's good that you decided to walk away before it did become this blob of ink on your arm that you regret.. So yays!! (:

But I do really like the idea of the black sheep, btw. I don't think I said at the post you made about it.. So yeah!

Yeah! I've been wearing it, sorta moving it around, and as of right now I still like the look of it. It's just such a prominent place that I sorta have to really think about it, because once I do it I'm totally committed to this inked lifestyle, and that's sorta a big thing for me to be considering, Queen of Moderation that I am.

Have we come to any sort of conclusion about it yet or not?!

I think the whole sheep thing is a good idea, and I totally wish it was mine..

Dude, it's totally not my idea, either. I mean, I'm sure that there's a ton of people with it. I mean, I personally know at least one other person. But, still! It's cute, and cool looking!
