OMG THE MEMORIES. *brb something in my eye*

I suddenly feel sort of REALLY old now...

I once wrote a fan letter to Joe Sakic and got back a signed 5x7 photo and I thought it was the greatest thing EVER (because I didn't know back that the players sat down & signed approximately 3,871,093 pics at one time for just such a purpose). And because I was a perfect angelic child, I gave it to my mother because he was her favorite player. Idiot kid.

Patrick Roy's quip to Roenick is bascially my favorite hockey quote ever. Sheer genius.

You did it again, this was amazing :)

I know, right? As I was getting all PETER FORSBERG <3______<3 I had the worst moment of being like . . . I feel reall old that I remember some of this stuff from first hand experience.

That's awesome! When you're a kid it means SO MUCH although, y'know. He did sign it for real, so that's always something to be happy about. I never got a Forsberg anything when I was a kid, so when he retired I bought a bobble head. Excellent choice, self.

Patrick Roy is pretty much my favorite, ever. I sorta have a deep appreciation for someone who is that spectacularly arrogant and irritating, and also has the skill to fully justify it.

I have like, a painfully large number of feelings about them, and I had to hold myself back or I would have needed three entries, all entitled "Why Peter Forsberg is the Best Thing Ever". And Roy is so ridiculous, he's one of those guys I adore and yet make fun of endlessly because he is SUCH A MASSIVE PAIN.

I'm glad you liked it! It means a lot to me that you'd give it a read!

Linked here via thefourthvine., and I'm so glad that I clicked on her click. Because this is simply glorious. Thank you for taking the time to tell us about these amazing players, for that Sakic giving the Cup to Bourque moment, for sharing that *incredible* Patrick Roy underwear story. This is just magnificent. I laughed, I cried, and I may be in love with the Avs a little bit right now.

My evil scheme is working perfectly ;)

Thank you so much for taking the time to give this a look through - it always gives me the warm fuzzies when people are willing to give the Avs a look. I really appreciate your time and it's so wonderful you enjoyed it, thank you <3

I'm always willing to learn more about *any* NHL team, even the Canucks. Maybe. As a newbie to hockey (I've only been watching since late February), just following the Hawks, the Pens, and the Caps is a full-time (sometimes heart-wrenching) job. But I love learning about the history of hockey and the stories of great players and teams. Actually, I probably should care a little more about the Avs since Kroenke owns my football (soccer) team, the Arsenal. :)

Also, Landeskog totally deserves the Calder even though I love Nuge and all the bb!Oilers. He is a *beast*.

I love when Hawks fans say "Canucks" as an exception - it reminds me of the good old days of Avs/Red Wings and I get all fuzzy inside for them :) I know what you mean, people who devotedly follow more than a few teams have massive dedication - I only follow the Avs religiously, and the Flyers when I can be bothered to.

The history of hockey is really fascinating, it's always awesome to meet students of it who are interested in the old school, I hope this helped a little (at least from the Avs side of things).

IAWTC. Landy is just the best choice on the ballot for his balance and poise in the game. Our rookie <3

thanks for this! anonymous April 17 2012, 17:13:37 UTC
Also here via thefourthvine, and I just wanted to thank you for this awesome post. However I do gotta say, I associate Glenn Hall with the origin of the butterfly style. Still, while I'm not old enough to be able to say whether or not Roy = best goalie ever, I can certainly say Roy >>>> Brodeur :)

Good luck to the Avs next year from a Leafs fan.

Thank you so much, wow! I'm really excited that people were willing to check this post out.

To me, I tend to think of Roy as the originator of the modern butterfly, purely because with his redesign of the pads it became possible to actually drop into the iconic butterfly and seal the goalie between the posts. I totally get where you're coming from, though, I think I should use the word 'modern butterfly' or something, so I can be clear.

Good luck to you guys, too. I really love what Jiggy is doing for the Avs, and I hope you guys are happy with Liles.
