Almost all my hip-hop is in singles or compilations. I think the only full album I ever got was Run-DMC's King of Rock on prerecorded cassette. But I've never bought it on CD (though it's got some great tunes besides Walk This Way and the title track).
I actually like "Michelle", but Paul McCartney has written his share of treaclely tunes. "Ob-la-di Ob-la-da", "Good Day Sunshine", "Getting Better", and even "Let It Be" with the Beatles. More than I want to remember once he went solo. (His duets with Michael Jackson make me long for fingernails on blackboards.)
I concur on the PM/MJ front. Lennon has also had misses, although everytime I say "I have an intense dislike for 'Imagine'", at least one person throws a hissy fit.
I also love Imagine. It's about the only hymn for atheists. But everybody has their songs they love and hate, and ballads seem to provoke the most extreme reactions.
