Tourist in Hungary - Vác

Mar 12, 2011 16:50

As agreed here is the first post of me being a tourist in my own country. Naturally the first post is from my home town, Vác. ^^

Also, I decided to post this topic public, so that everyone can see it. Please, don't make me regret this with spam/junk comments.

Vác is a baroque town at the eastern bank of the Danube and has about 40000 inhabitants ( Read more... )

Such a gorgeous town square and buildings - very beautiful. And the Danube looks so pastoral there (it saddened me when I was in Budapest that all the walkways along the Danube seemed blocked off due to building - or there were roads running alongside it).

How I know in Budapest you can't really go to the Danube, only walk by the street next to it. The capital needs to protect itself from the flood, which is a permanent issue. But maybe by the Margaret-island you would have luck...

Not the first railway line in Europe, I'm afraid, I grew up near that which is why I know that the Adler which ran between Nuremberg and Fürth was the first one in Europe.

I wouldn't be surprised if your railway line wasn't longer though.

Oh, you have a German exchange partner, nifty ^^ - and this is a beautiful example of a mainly baroque town. There's not a lot of our towns from that time that look as coherent and all in one style.

Hah, you're on the Danube too? My bit of the Danube looks much much narrower ^^

Oh, thank you for the info! By the editing I'll change it then. And I don't know about how long it was, but the track is 34 km from the capital to Vác.

Your pictures from the Danube:
Yes, I know. In Germany the Danube is more controlled, even side-channels and multi-pronged parts are called Danube... Also, since it begins in Germany, I believe it only gets wider later.

Jobban vagy már? Remélem igen. Mindenesetre jobbulást!

Thank you. ^^ And this was actually, why I began. Cause I almost forgot about it in all the hectic of every-day life.
