Ulysses gave me a freaking headache. Totally bizzare book.

People have told me that, but I've also heard that it's genius. So I'm mostly curious about the book, but I'm not sure if I'll get around to it since Ulysses is about 1000 pages.

I need to read On the Road, too, for my BA paper. I wonder if it's any good. I'm not big on the hippie-related literature.

I'm almost done with it (50 pages to go) and it's not hippie novel at all. In fact, Kerouac didn't like the hippie movement and looked upon it with disdain when he saw how the beatnik movement, of which he was a part, merged with it. His friendship with Allen Ginsberg ended over it.

All it is about is these spontaneous road trips that Kerouac (known as Sal in the book) and his friends take. It read like a realistic adventure story and I think it's pretty good so far.
